7mm STW versus 7mm Rem Mag
It seems like there are a lot of you out there who like 7mms of one flavor or another. I have an old Ruger #1 that was a 7mm Rem Mag. It was a very accurate gun but had been fired enough to begin to show serious throat wear and accuracy was declining. When the 7mm STW was first introduced, I decided to rechamber the gun and see if I could prolong its life. The rechambered gun is more accurate than the original ever came close to being. Is this because the 7mm STW is a more accurate caliber? Is it because it is easier to reload for and find the right load? Did I just get lucky and find the right loads for the second chambering. What do you think, I would like to hear your ideas on this.

Could be a combination of a lot of things. Luck, good smithing, good metal, maybe a good handload, who knows. Like has been said before, all guns have a sweet spot for a given load. Maybe you just never found that sweet spot for the RM. Glad that the gun worked out for you though!!
