280 remington
where are all the guns chambered in 280 going to i have been looking for a good used remington BDL in 280 for a while now. now i find out a new gun is not even an option as remington no longer chambers the BDL in 280 unless i want to spend 1800.00 on a custom shop gun
my reason is abit anal or silly(270 or 30/06 would do the job) but i 'm looking for a companion gun to my 7mm mag for out west and the 280 is a 7mm bullet ease of reloading same bullet and simaliar trajectory i have a composite stock for the 7 mm mag so swaping between guns if somthing happed to the 7mm on trip would no problem swap stock and shoot a few rounds to re zero and good to go but i have been unable to find a 700 bdl in 280 with a hinged floor plate anywhere in michigan and talked to remington directly amd they don't chamber a bdl in 280 due to similarity of 270 and 30/06

RE: 280 remington
Well the factory barrel contour on the Rem 280 is different then the factory magnum barrel contour on a 7 rem mag so it wouldn't just drop in. They are very popular(280's) in custom guns but that is about it. I have run into some weatherby lightweights and a browning SS Abolt chambered in that but that is about it. Look at a 7-08 or getting another 7 rem mag unless you absolutely have to have a 280. Good Luck

My guess is two fold.....first there's not that many guns chambered to .280 Rem and those that have one don't trade them off very often.
It's one of our very much under appreciated cartridges.....in all sincerity it should have wiped out the .270 years ago.....but it certainly hasn't.

RE: 280 remington
actully the barreled action will slip right in it is an aftermarket stock just need to be a 700 bdl long action rifle the stock free floats the barrel so no contour issues

Pkfd7535 , yes it will drop in to a stock but there will be some serious gap around that barrel if done, a place where leaves, pine needles and snow and ice can accumulate. Every Remington 700 I have owned whether a KS or a plain one is bedded at the foreend tip... I have found them all to be excellent shooters and I have owned (1) 700 KS in 280 rem and 2 700 ks in 7 Rem mag not to mention a bunch of classics and BDL's in 7 rem mag (I do a lot of trading or should I say did) . The only thing I have ever done to my Remingtons is glass the recoil lug if needed and adjust the trigger and they all were fine shooters.

Hi pkfd7535,
Remington still catalogs their 700 Mountain Rifle DM in .280 Remington. Go here:
http://www.remington.com/firearms/ce...e/700mtndm.htm
They may or may not have other models as well. But this one is still in production. Hope it helps!
Dave
P.S. Much less than the custom shop route.

The reason, in my opinion, that you are not finding any .280 used is that the round is finally catching on with American hunters and shooters for it obvious advantages over the .270 winchester. At my local shop they are gone within days of coming in either new or used. I have 3 rifles chambered for the .280 now and I would never think of parting with any of them. The round has god like status in Europe but just never caught on in the US. Jack O'Conner had brainwashed entire generations into the .270. Just seems to me that the younger folks these days are realizing its ballistically superior to the .270 and opting for it. I will admit it took me awhile to "shake" the .270 hype and understand that the .280 could do everything the .270 could do and do it better plus a whole lot more.
