Whelen36 what kind of accuracy are you getting from your .444 in the Winchester model 94 Big Bore? Also, do you know if the powerful rounds that are manufactured for the .444 by Buffaloe Bore, Corbon, and perhaps Garrett are too long for the 94 action?

I can't comment on the "big bores" but theres no question of why the leverguns are so popular. If you hunt the fields your better of with a bolt, but up here where its real thick you see lots of short, light, iron sighted levers, especially when theres a drive on.
When I go to the camp I bring I bring an iron sighted lever 30-30, and a scoped bolt .308 so I'm ready for anything.
Problem is I always have the 30-30 when I see one feeding 100yrds away, and the .308 when one screams by 10yrds away at 100 miles/hr.

Whelen36:... I ordered the ammo several years ago thru a gunshop in Virginia. I believe the Gunshop was Carter's or something like that. The ammo was made by "Barber's Ammunition Co., Inc.". I believe the guy in the gunshop said they were in Vermont... but I'm not positive. The reason I ordered it from them is because of the age and make of gun you need to use older slower burning powders.
P.S. I did a quick search but didn't find them. Here are some links.
