Another Caliber Question
Been shooting and hunting for 45+ years and finally just picked a Cetme for a fun gun. Question is what to put through it? I always thought that 7.62 X 51 and .308 were the same thing. Now I find out that I may be wrong as I have seen info telling me that I shouldn't fire anything but MILITARY AMMO through these guns (no commercial, nonstandard, or reloads). Something to do with wall thickness (thicker on MIL SPEC) and sloppy specs as to sizing (much wider limitations on MILSPEC) Is this true? If so-can I reload using military brass to nato specs and if so where do I find nato specs? I already load for .308 plus others.

RE: Another Caliber Question
Do You have a CETME auto loader? (Looks like a German G3)
Then mind that full power 7.62 /308 is too powerfull! The spanish loaded the cartridge down to stay within the limits of what the locking lugs can handle.... only the German G3 looks like it, but the 2 rifles are not each others equals. The German rifles is strong enough, the spanish is not!
If you have a CETME bolt-action carbine, then you can use full power 7.62
if you like it, that is..they can kick pretty bad with full power stuff, the spanish used their version in them, about 70 % of Nato stuff strenght, if I'm remembering correctly, please do check this!!
Kind regards,
Vesi
