What kind of shotgun shells for skeet????
Hey everyone... I just bought a Remington Model 11-87 12 guage Premier LH the other day for Turkey, Quial, Ducks, Boar, and Skeet shooting. I was told that I should use a heavy load for skeet of the gun may not cycle the shells through. I was wondering if anyone shoots skeet with this gun and what shells they used. 3 1/4 dr. and 1 1/8 oz. shot in 2 3/4" was what I was looking at... would this work?

Try a 1 1/8oz load with 8 or 9 shot. Probably the best way to find out if it'll work ok in your gun is to buy a box and test them at the range.
It's been a long time since I shot skeet, and when I did it was with a pump gun (870). Teaches you how to handle a pump really quickly.

pointer, if you are talking about regulation skeet, heavy shells are not required. They will beat you up needlessly. By that, in my opinion dont use anymore than you need. On average the range isnt but 20-25 yards in skeet. I would reccomend a light target load ...say a 3 dram 1oz or 1 1/8 oz of #9's. Using heavy field loads will only cause more flinching and fatigue to you. It's a fun and relaxing thing to do, you might shoot 100 rounds before ya know it, but your sore shoulder will remind you. In skeet you are shooting at crossing targets, once you get the timing down there aint nothing to it.
The 11-87 should be able to digest light target loads, if it dont there's something wrong with it.

thanks guys... i got some 3 dram and 3 1/4 dram both with 8 shot and 1 1/8 oz... if both these work, i may try 3 dram with 1 oz. i have shot skeet alot before but with my girlfriend's dad reloaded shells in over unders and one Browning A5, so I wasn't sure about the Remington... thanks again and don't work too hard this week!

All I use is 1 oz. loads anymore, even use some 7/8ths oz. No. 9's in my 12 bore. Heck a 3/4 oz. 28ga. load of No. 9's will grind targets into dust if you center 'em. Just remember, keep your head on the stock and your eye on the rock!

I always use cheap ole AA or Estates 7/8th oz. 3 dram. In my 11-87. Its only chambered in 3" though. Never had a problem. If you going trap and skeet, my want to pick you up a cheek rest or whatever they are called. I guess a comb raising kit. Really helps with trap shooting.
