RE: Remington 760 ...any opinions
Hi oldelkhunter,
I've owned a number of 760's (as well as 7600's) over the years. They have all been good hunting rifles and frequently shoot surprisingly well. They are a great hunting rifle......in spite of the fact the bolties have taken a large part of the market!
If it's in nice shape.....and the price is fair.....take it!
Good luck!
Dave

I only wish all Remington guns was as good. My brother owns one he bought in the late 50s...it hasn't shot a box of shells...30-06...18 1/2" barrel...looks like new and shoots with bolt actions easily.
I had a .270.....extremely reliable and fully serviceable for most of North American shooting.

Got one chambered in .308 Win.. Not sure of the vintage. Shoots very good and never had a jam. I did have a broken firing pin once. I think the part only cost a few dollars to replace.

If its in good shape, I'd say buy it if you like it. My friend has 2 760s in 30-06 and he loves them. One really likes 180 gr handloads and the other will shoot anything he puts into it. And I mean shoots. Both rifles group around 1" to 1 1/4". He likes them so much he is taking them to Wyoming this year instead of his 700 on our mulie/antelope hunt.

OEH, The Remington 760's are a nice rifle.Sounds like you found a nice specimen. I've had one for a long time. Unfortunately I had the barrel cut down, which I regret doing. It still shoots well.Mine is a 30-06.Something to keep in mind. Remington no longer has parts for these jewels. They'll send you a list of Remington parts dealers who MAY have them.I lost a pin for mine fortunately a gunsmith friend happen to have it.If it's in the condition the ad discribed I'd say go for it.Take care of it and it should give many more years of good service.

Ruger that was a good point that you brought up...its not a local dealer and between shipping and my local dealers transfer it would be almost as economical to buy a brand new one so I am going to pass on it...pretty as it is
