Ruger that was a good point that you brought up...its not a local dealer and between shipping and my local dealers transfer it would be almost as economical to buy a brand new one so I am going to pass on it...pretty as it is

Ruger - why do you regret cutting it down. I purchased a new 7600 and had 2" cut off (wanted a "carbine" for carrying in the adirondacks)
just curious

RE: Remington 760 ...any opinions
Just bought a new one yesterday. I shot it today but didn't have it sighted in yet. Shoots and cycles just as good as the other three I have had. I had a 30-06 both in the carbine and the 22 inch. I also had a 270 which was the most accurate rifle that I have ever shot and thats a lot of rifles. It would shoot the 130 grain Ballistic tips into a three shot group under one inch at 200 yards. There are not many stock rifles that will do that. All of mine have been accurate but not as much so as that one 270. I let a guy talk me into selling it to him for his grandson. Of course that won't sell it back to me now. Can't blame them. I wouldn't sell it again either.

Thats next on the list ... I am applying in VT,ME and NH for moose this fall and if I ever get a tag...that will be the weapon of choice in that situation... Could be the ultimate deep woods gun as well as all around rifle.... I could kick myself for getting rid of my 270 a long time ago...

Old Elk,
760 is a great rifle. If rifle is capable of meeting your needs, is in good mechanical shape and the price is right (for YOUR wallet) - go for it.

James B and Matt...I owned a 270 760 and now am really sorry I got rid of it...looked at one last night in 270 and did not realize how freefloated these things are..no wonder they are so accurate...

I have a 7600 in .35 whelen and I like it a lot.
I have a friend that had one in 30/06 and he borrowed some shells from my brother that were handloads (NOT FULL LENGHT RESIZED). The action would not close up tight on the reloads and so he could not shoot the buck we were watching. This is not a fault of the gun but something the operator must be aware of. FULL LENGHT RESIZE all cases when handloading for a pump or semi-auto.
I had my scope trained on the buck as well but wanted my friend to shoot his first buck. As he fumbled around trying to close up the action I said" If you don't shoot soon I will, BOOM!"
