Default Rem Model 7ss

I have a friend that has a Rem Model 7ss in 7mm-08 and I'm interested in buying it from him. It has a Leupold Vari-XII 3x9x40 with Leupold mounts and is in great shape. What is this gun worth? What is the recoil in a 7mm-08 equal to? I don't know much about this caliber and would like any information someone can give. Thanks alot, ruthunter

WELCOME ABOARD RUT HUNTER. I COULDN'T GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE VALUE, BUT THE MODEL 7 IS A NICE GUN AND THE GLASS AND MOUNTS MAKE IT VERY NICE. AS FAR AS THE 7MM-08 THE RECOIL IS VERY MILD AND IT IS A VERY POTENT DEER CARTRIGE.

CERTIFIED GUN NUT--

The 7mm-08 cartridge is simply a .308 necked down to 7mm.Recoil would be similar. How old is the rifle?Go to your local store and price out new equipment, then compare prices. What is he asking for it?Why is he selling it?What kind/size game do you intend on hunting?

He's asking $650 and I figure he will come down to $600. He just bought a 280 and also has a 7mm a-bolt. I've priced the gun new for $579, not including tax and background check. I am going to hunt whitetail deer with it. Do you think its worth $600?

Sounds like a pretty good deal.I assume your new gun price does not include scope and rings. One more thing before you buy it,ask your friend to lend you the rifle and go put a couple boxes of ammo through it.Make sure it holds its zero, feels comforable, and that you are happy with it.Check the bore for pitting and make sure the rifling is clean and sharp. The 7mm-08 is a good choice for deer.

I have the exact same set-up,if the gun is not &quot;beat-up&quot;,$650 is a good price...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Try to shoot it first! I AM A HUGE REMINGTON FAN, but we had the exact rifle you describe, and it shot terrible! It would string shots, always going up and to the right. I lost count of how many different load combinations we tried. I checked and replaced the mounts. I also bought another Leupold and put on it. Nothing helped! Zero it as best you could, hunt with it a few days, and shoot it again and it would be off high and right GUARANTEED! I loved the way it handled, but if wont shoot, I wont own it.

I have two model sevens. one ss in 308 and a blued in 6mm rem. love them , best woods rifle made in my opinion. if you hunt in a climbing stand youll be hooked. $ 650 i would nego. with him. i am concidering one that my friend has in 260 for my son . had 22 rounds through it and a aetec on it. he wants 450.00. in my area they are great guns. one thing i have found that may help. when i shoot it i will shoot once and then not shoot again until the barrel is cool. i find i get better groups. the barrels are thin and get hot. i just find they shoot better that way.
