RE: Favorite brand of ammo
If you are concerned with accuracy (MOA), the ammo you shoot will be determined by your rifle and what it shoots the best. You may really like Federal (for instance), but you gun shoots poor groups with this ammo, yet shoots wonderful groups with Remington ammo. I have 2 30-06s, one a Rem 700 and another a Model 70. They both have ss barrels, both have HS precision stocks, both have 24 in barrels, yet the 700 shoots Federal far better than the 700, and the 700 shoots Win BTs better that the 70. So, to be as accurate as you can, chose the ammo your gun likes best. After all, don't we owe it to the game we are hunting to make a clean, killing shot?

Just wondering what are others' favorite brand of ammo, specifically for a 30-06 and 270. I noticed from other posts that quite a number of people aren't too fond of Remington's Core-Lokts, so I was curious as to what others prefer and for what reasons? Thanks.

im a federal guy myself for my 3006...or handloads when i get a chance to use my friends equiptment....ive never had a problem with anything from federals premium line....may be more then corelokts but i dislike corelokts....i lost 2 deer with them....sure i hit them bad....but they left barely any blood....my scope was broke thats why the hits werent true...i had no idea...but with a 3006 at 40 yards there should be blood everywhere....all my deer from my federals had tons and tons of blood......but thats my opinion....100000s of deer are killed with corelokts every year....they must work....maybe i had a box that were junk or something

I use 150 gr. Core-Lokts in my .30-06 700 ADL, and 2¾" Slugger 1 oz. rifled slugs in my 870 Wingmaster. I guess you could say I'm a fan of Remington's guns and ammo. They both work great for me.

I have used the Core-Lokts in all of my guns for a long time now and have never had a problem with them.
I prefer them to other brands, but have used the Winchester Silvertips on occassion and they performed alright.

My rem. 700 BDL stailess synthetic 30-06 prefers 165 grain Federal 165 grain boat tails. It shoots the Remington core lokts ok but not as tight.
My Wood stock blued barrel rem. 700 BDL can shoot the core lokts through the same hole at 100yds.
You really need to shoot your rifle with different brands to see what is the best brand.
At work most all FBI or police snipers in my state shoot 168 grain Federal Match ammo. Once in a blue moon I see a sniper shooting the Winchester, but that is very rare.
I think for hunting the remingtons are fine, I don't know the exact reason why professional shooters don't use their match grade ammo or if they even make match grade ammo.

When i shot factory bullets is used Hornady. I still used them once in a while when i started reloading but i have pretty much settled in on the Nosler Partition and the Speer Hot-cor as my favorite bullets.
