The only in your mind is true in one respect. I have and shoot a 7mm mag. and always thought a .30-06 kicked alot more. I have no flinching problem with the 7mm but i went to shoot the '06 and was holding it really tight and slightly shaking worried about it and when i finally shot it i could see my flinch. I never worried about the '06 after fireing it that one time. But with a .460 weatherby mag i could probly be a little worried.

I have never shot the 300 ultra mag but I used shoot 338 win mag and the 375RDS which a wild cat developed by a friend of mine that is about equivalent to the 375H&H up to 50 rds per session with no ill effectsssss but iv'e had friends who felt 1 round was very painful and the 30-06 was uncomfortable so in my mind it an individual thing size or strength really have nothing to do with it all depends on what you call fun.

How would ya'll compare the recoil of the 300 win mag to the 300 RUM? i have shot the 300 win several times with no complaints about the recoil. Just wondering if it is much more than the 300 win? I'm about 200 lbs and 6'1" Does anybody usually have a problem w/ the 300 win recoil?I shoot a .3006 now , But want a rifle to shoot larger game w/ out to 500 or so with plenty of punch at that distance. I mean, My 06 shoots 5 " groups at 400 But peters out around 500 on the energy side..

The 300 ultramag does have plenty of energy to kill elk and moose at 500 yards but most people don't have the skill to place their bullets at that distance. If you have access to a 500 yard range, are prepared to spend the time and expense to practise a great deal at ranges out to 500 yards until you can place your bullets consistantly at that distance and aren't bothered by the substantial increase in recoil over the 300win mag the 300ultramag makes a fine long range elk and moose cartridge.

When loaded heavy, I think the 450Marlin has more recoil. The 300RUM has maybe a different recoil. In other words, like when i am loading RL25, It feel like a hard push, instead of a shock to my shoulder. Compare the RUM to a 2 3/4" slug. Not a 3".
I got this sudden need for a 450 guide gun. What in the world would I do with that.

My 300 has nice a recoil pad as well as a good brake. My 5'10, 195 frame doesn't even feel the recoil in a hunting situation.
On the bench after about 10 rounds ya get a little sore but it's nothing the average man can't handle with a brake recoil pad set up.

Is the recoil too much in the 300 Remington Ultra Magnum? I know it depends upon a lot of factors (load, bullet weight, gun weight, etc), but with a factory load is it managable?
Good Luck with your new rifle!
