Remington 870 Magnum
I have a chance to pick up a like new Remington 870 Magnum for a more than reasonable cost at my local dealer. I want to use it for Deer and Turkey. My question is can this gun fire both 2 3/4 and 3" shells ?. It is an older gun just in exceptional shape. Thanks for any replies

Excellent gun! Look on the side of the chamber. It "should" say 2 3/4 and 3" shells. Since you mentioned Magnum, then I assume it's safe for 3" shells (which technically are the magnum variety anyway).
I have the Remington 870 Express Magnum 12GA. It takes 2 3/4 and 3" shells without a problem. Incredible shotgun - it goes anywhere, does anything, shoots anything, without ever having a problem!

RE: Remington 870 Magnum
Hmm... where to begin, exactly how old is the rem?? Ask yourself a couple of questions first; why is an "older" shotgun in such good shape?? Why so cheap?? Probably from lack of use, that answers the first ?. but what about the cheap part? I'd try to track down the previous owner and find out a little history first. You know the saying,"If it's to good to be true...."
As for your question, yes it will handle 2.75" shells unless other wise specified on the barrel. Off the top of my herad the only scattergun that doesn't handle 2.75" shells is the Mossberg 935. Why?? Because it's designed that way.

RE: Remington 870 Magnum
Plainsman, it was part of an estate sale...this dealer seems to buy up entire gun collections. This one has IC system on the barrel so it can't be that old...it is as good shape as any new 870 he has in stock. He wants 325 for it and that seems pretty good comparing to what a new one would be...

I agree with everything that Butcha said. I have owned one since they came out and have never had a problem with it. We sank a boat once in 4 ft of water with my 870 at the bottom of the channel, retreived it(boat too), field stripped it, got rid of the loon goo and kept on hunting with it the rest of the day. Had a Wingmaster before that...never any trouble. You can`t go wrong with one.
