I'v narrowed my search
I think I am going with the Browning Stainless Stalker in one of the WSM calibers. I read the advertised ballistics and they seem inflated for a short action. There is not much difference between the 7mm and the .270 so I think I want to go with the .270 Just not sure If I should jump up to the .300 .. I have a couple of .270's and a .300 weatherby even a 7mm rem But I want a small stainless synthetic .. Anybody see much difference in the field between the WSM's ... I will use it for whitetail within 300yds ..Bill

338, as long as the game is whitetails and the range is under 300 yards, there isn't any difference in any of the WSMs or any .300 mag or even the standard .270 or .30-06 for that matter.
I like the 7MMs over the .270s because they can handle the 175 grain bullets for much bigger game.....but you said whitetails only.....Go for it.

I once would have picked the 270 wsm but after reading data from Hornady # 6 on the 7 WSM it is something else. There is not enough difference between a 270 win and the wsm to make a difference but in the 7WSM its another ballpark. 3300 fps with a 139 grain bullet is pretty darn good for a short action with a 24" barrel. I had the Abolt SS in 300 wsm and a Model 70 w/24" barrel and there isn't any difference between velocities especially with factory loads.

RE: I'v narrowed my search
I have seen you posting about the .25 WSM it does sound interesting but I am looking for a little more punch .. I have a .25/06 already .. The more I think about it there is nothing I can't do with the .300 that I can do with the others and I would have a much better choice of bullets with the .300 Is there any down side to the .300? Or will the .270 or 7 do anything better than the .300 that I haven't thought of ... Bill
