I WOULD TAKE EITHER GUN BOTH ARE EXCELT BUT THE UM PROBALY WON'T COST AS MUCH AND THE WEATHERBY.

Thanks for all the replies, Sorry it caused some controversy between members, I think the caliber advantages lean towards the RUM.

Now here is a new question?

Of the three guns what would you choose in 300 Ultra Mag:

1)Remington 700 BDL SS

2)Remington Sendero SF

3)Browning A-Bolt Stainless

The A-Bolt isn't offered in either caliber (300 WBY or 300 Rem UM) anyway, is it? (Just the new WSM offerings, and standard 300 Winmag.)

Mark in NE,

All the rifles I listed are available in 300 Ultra Mag, the price is almost the same with the Sendero being about $200 more.

Just wondering what other members think. The stores here say to go with the Sendero because of the heavier barrel, I wonder if they really just want the extra $200.

OK I redid my homework! I can not find anything conclusive that tells me which one is faster or not. If you look at the weatherby ammo using 200 grain bullets, its faster then the 200 grain bullets by remington. But if you just look at remingtons ammo, they make the ulta mag faster then the wby. If you reload, It looks like you can do darn near the same with either caliber. The weatherby is more expensive. I still love my weatherbys, they are the king when i reload um!

340WBYMAG - My .300 RUM is a 700 BDLSS. I prefer the Remington over the Browning, although the Browning is an excellent rifle. The Sendero SF is an excellent rifle. All of the samples I have experience with have shot superbly. The only problem with the Sendero is that it is so darn heavy. The weight would reduce the felt recoil, but if you cover alot of ground it could prove unbearable to carry. I would only hunt with one if I were hunting from a stand, and only then if it didn't require too long of a walk to get there.

I stand corrected, after a quick review of Browning's latest 2002 website.

I have a two BDL's. One in 270 and the other in 300RUM. From now on, I only buy bull barrel in rifles, or sendero fluted or accumark fluted. The 300RUM was accurate but you had to let it cool down between shots to get the accuracy I was looking for. I have since then got another 300RUM in PSS with the heavier barrel. I dont' see the heat effects I do on the BDL's. If I had my choice my barrels would be bigger than the #5 contour currently on the sendero's. I know they are a pain to pack all day in the woods, but I feel more confident and steady with a heavier gun

Bigcountry-My own 300 ultra mag barrel is only .640" at the muzzle but it is fluted. It will shoot 1/2" 3 shot groups with no cool down between shots. The barrel(pac-nor) is free floated and pillar bedded into a mcmillan stock.
