In a few year old Gun Traders Guide they have listed a Remington model 30A Bolt Action Express Rifle standard grade at 425.00 they were made from 1923-40
Calibers available 25,30,32, and 35 Rem.7mm Mauser 30-06.22"bbl Walnut stock w/checkered pistol grip and forearm. Early model 30's had a slender forend with schnabel tip.

I read three issues here.....and the biggest one is solely up to you!!
1. Market Value of the gun.....I'll accept the $425 number although it seems high I suspect it reflects some collectors value.
2. Does it fit my needs ?.....In my case...No!. I can buy much more suitable guns for less money.....(used)...I bought a used Remington 700 in .270 the other day for under $300.
3. Does the fact that it's "Grandpa's" gun have a bearing on this decision?...install your own answer.

You told us nothing about the condition. Does it look like a new gun? That's what the Gun Traders Guide price reflects. Or is it like many old guns in that the finish is worn the wood nicked, etc. If it's like many old guns that "grandpa" used to hunt with, the finish is probably worn and the wood nicked, scratch, and maybe cracked. Those things will cause the value to plumment.
