This is only my personal opinion but i think a rifle is only as good as the optics on it. I don't care if your shooting a custom made rifle if it's got a piece of crap scope on it that fogs, blurs, or moves poi everytime you look in it or shoot it then the rifle isn't worth a hill of beans to me. I have several scopes that cost twice as much as the rifle they're sitting on. I say go ahead and put a nice piece of glass on the rifle for your kids and you don't have to spend $600 to do it either and in the long run i don't think you'll regret it. Hey look at it this way, if you end up getting rid of the rifle in the future then you have a quality scope to put on a new one

If by a 149.00 Simmons you mean the Atech, you could not go wrong. They are a good solid rugged scope which will stand up for many years.

I've owned several very cheap Bushnel and Tasco scopes and have never been disappointed with either.....Simmons on the other hand.....well....I won't buy any more of them....

to be honest as long as a scope holds its zero most deer dont know the difference.
the deer wont know the differnce thats for sure, but if your scope fogs or clouds then it wont matter where the crosshairs are and what they're pointed at, because u wont be able to see them anyway and the deer will be anywhere but in your freezer.

Talk to your local outdoor store, gunsmith ect, find a scope in your price range and get them to garantee it. You cant go wrong then
