Want a gun capable of doing it all?????...want something your buddies will appreciate???....want something that will wake you up when you squeeze the trigger??????? Want something that will take care of white tails and stuff a little bigger in the future?????.....It's called a .375 H&H magnum.......it's all you need.....

Hey Vapo,

Now he just throws in a .22LR (inexpensive practice & small vermin). A .223 Remington (also inexpensive practice) and slightly larger vermin at considerably longer ranges. A .30-06 because it is just too good of a cartridge not to include (still cheap practice.....M2 Ball 20 rds for $5.00). A good 12 gauge repeating shotgun. And a 4" to 6" barrel .357 Magnum.

Sounds like a total battery to me!

Oh yea....if you had to do everything with just one cartridge.....the .375 H&H will do it all, (especially if you reload)!

P.S. In recognition of our 2nd Amendment...I think Congress should pass a law requiring every household in America to have all of the above on hand. With a minimum of 500 rounds per firearm also on hand.

.30-06 should be as good as any other cartridge for whitetail. If I were to get a "deer only" gun, it would be a .25-06. The .300 WM is probably best for taking all North American game without "overkill" on the smaller species.

P.S. akbound- I think I have your criteria covered, and then some, and I don't plan on stopping soon!

My personal opinion on the subject is that the .300 Win. Mag would be on the upper end for firepower on Midwestern whitetail deer. Anything more than that would just be up to one's own personal preference.

If you want something different, try a .270 Wby Mag or .270 WSM
They are both good for deer, and you could take a 'larger critter' with one too
Good Luck
