Default Semi-auto versus Single Action...Which?

I have heard sportsmen discuss the following issue in barber shops, and on fishing banks, etc., but I want to get the opinions of you guys (the REAL "experts" Which do you believe would be more intimidating by its very appearance (not that appearance will defend you, but for sake of argument) to an assailant, a semi-auto or single action handgun?

Hoping for a hearty discussion,
BOLTACTION

I think a semi may be more intimidating...but accuracy is more important than speed.

Which ever you choose, choose one with a big bore. I think a big hole at the muzzle can be very intimidating if that's what you're looking for.

a semi-auto with the end of the barrell painted black.
a 40 cal painted black looks like a 12 ga.in this case bigger ie better.

If I was crazy enough to deserve having a gun leveled on me the size wouldn't matter as much as the hate in the gunman's eyes directed towards ME!
