Actually there are no " true" weatherbys.Weatherby does not build guns but has them built by other companies such as howa in the case of the vanguard.

Never saw a rifle bolt blow apart. I did see a blackpowder revolver blow the chambers apart. [][X(]

This is NOT TRUE!! It may very well be that Weatherby is contracting out the building of their rifles these days, but at one time, before the advent of the Mark V action, Weatherby rifles were all made in Roy' s plant in South Gate CA., and he personally test-fired every one of them before it left the shop. In addition, Roy Weatherby personally designed the Mark V action, even though he had others make the ACTIONS for him. In addition, no matter where it is made today, all Weatherby rifles (and most all other high-powered rifles) are PROOF-TESTED before being sold. So a failure of a Weatherby would have to be due to something like that recall ad stated, an INCORRECT REASSEMBLY of a bolt by someone who didn' t know what he was doing! In additon, five will getcha ten that the rifle that " failed" was a Vanguard, NOT a Mark V!! (Unless the failure was due to a severely overloaded cartridge, and not the gun!!)

Eldeguello-I said that " weatherby does not build guns but has them built by other companies" .I did not say that weatherby has never assembled guns. But even the guns assembled in the weatherby plant before the markV was invented did not use weatherby built actions. They were merely other manufacturers actions and components assembled in the weatherby plant. So really there are no rifles(or even actions) that were designed and manufactured by weatherby and therefore as I stated earlier- no true weatherbys.

I see you place a lot of stock in semantics. Just what would you call a rifle built on a Mark V action, chambered for a Weatherby Magnum case, and stocked in that godawful Hollywood-Weatherby style, then? Several different manufacturers made Mark V actions, but it would be very cumbersome to try to differentiate mark V' s by who happened to make the action. paericularly when the guns are marked " Weatherby" !

I call them overpriced(with the exception of the vanguard).I actually call all guns with the weatherby name stamped on them weatherbys but since weatherby does not actually manufacture any of them I don' t believe in the " true weatherby" label.

From my own personal perspective, quality control at weatherby is non-existant.

Go back and read the recall by Weatherby....how many years does it cover?
