That 90% stuff Ruddy Duck is saying is true for commercial ranges and I'll include most public ones, BUT does not represent a good overview. Alot of us serious shooters tend to practice on PRIVATE land not formal ranges or on open public land were 600-1000yd shots can be made. Plus we can avoid the real goof-balls that way.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

when someone says that 90% probably cant make a shot at 300 yards he is probably right. remember that though alot of you shoot at ranges to be very proficient A LARGE number shoot 3 rounds a year at 100yards and then go off to the deer hunt. also shooting off a bench at the range doesnt make you able to hit stuff at 300+yards. next time you get ready at the range use an improvised &quot;field type&quot; rest and start 100 yards away and run/jog up to your rifle and the take max 4 seconds to shoot and see how well you do. if you can do it great move it make to 400 and do it until its possible. and dont forget you need to do it on a day when the wind is blowing
i dont know if i will ever hunt with a rifle capable of doing that (all ive done so far and plan to do is handgun hunt)(probably some blackpowder)

I've come to the conclusion that too many people think that equipment will take the place of practice. Talking about 300 yards shots...I've seen plenty of guys that can't make 75 yard shots.

There's a hell of a difference between the comfort of a sandbag and the bark of an oak when it comes to a rest.
