it wasn' t widely known a few years ago when the gun section of Remington announced the .17 Rem as the gun for their annual classic, the ammo division was just about to announce the discontinuation of .17 Rem ammo.
This cartridge has a good chance of being obsoleted soon so if you buy a .17 Rem, buy a lifetime supply of brass while you' re at it.

Not sure who' s making a 17 Rem anymore.I think the new 17HMR will drive the final nail into the 17 Rem' s coffin.I' m with Vapodog on this one. If you buy a 17 Rem you better buy the dies, shell holder and all the components.I know the 5mm Rem was a rimfire but when the ammo dried up the price skyrocketed.I think the 17 Rem will follow shortly.

Remington still shows a BDL in .17. stepfather has one and really likes it. He also has a 17 rimfire but I dont think you can really compare the two. The centerfire is still alot more gun. Check some of the gunsites of the manufacturers one of might also make a .17 yet. I think you could get ammo for quite a while if it was discontinued. It' s pretty popular around here in illinois yet and reloads with 222 or 223 cases necked down so that' s not a problem.
