Well based on the little information you have given. I would say that the .270 would NOT be what your looking for. I think the .270 is a super cartridge for deer, but in thick cover you could do better, especially if your only going to shoot 100 yards most of the time. Maybe a cartridge like the .308 that is a bit slower than the .270. Just my opinion!

To me this sounds like the place for a quick handling lever action 30-30 , 32 Win or 35 rem, 444 marlin , or 45-70. Not a brush buster we all know that doesn' t exist. On the other hand a .270 with say a 1.5-7 x scope so that you can see ( and find ) the deer in the scope would work as well; If you are sitting on or stand hunting .Stalking I' d take one of the lever actions just my opinion though.

In my view the .270 Winchester is an awesome and powerful cartridge. It' s ideal use is for long range mountain and prairie hunting and It' ll certainly do for deer in the woods.
I think that you' d be better served by a carbine style gun chambered for a " short action" cartridge. The Remington M-7 in .260 is a good example. Brownings micromedallion in .257 Roberts or a Savage 99 in .250-3000
However a .270 will serve you well!! Remington used to make their pump in an 18 1/2" barrel....great woods gun.

I much prefer the 25-06 for deer and similar sized game and the 7mm and up for elk and moose. As such I don' t have a use for the 270.

The 270 would be a great gun. If you reload you can get a good round nose bullet up to 170 grain. If not the 150 grain bullet in any good factory load would be good for your conditions. You would also be set up for deer hunting anywhere on earth with a good 270. A 308 would fill the nich as well as some of the ones listed above. 7MM-08, 260 Rem. and the lever guns. Its just that the 270 is so versitile.
