I took my Stoeger Uplander SxS 20 gauge out squirrel hunting this weekend. I sure like it. It carries well, shoots good and wasn' t pricey at all. Jsut wish I would have taken some number 4s for those limb rats up in the top of the trees.

I' ve been out of bird hunting for about 15 yr. now, just getting back into it. Tell me, why are the side by sides getting phased out? To be honest, side by sides have more class and character than o/u. In my HUMBLE opinion anywho

SxS swings easier than a comparable O/U and doesn' t have to be opened as far to load ammo.. I could care less that trap shooters don' t use SxS' s since their guns or " sport" really have no sporting implications other than maybe Duck hunting. I much prefer skeet and sporting clays to simulate actual hunting conditions. I used to own a couple of the cheaper Spanish made SxS' s when i was younger and most of the time the barrels were not regulated correctly and then gravitated to pump/autoloaders. After a couple of years of not shooting shotguns I purchased a very nice quality Italian made SxS side that is a dream to handle and shoot. If it has any drawbacks it' s stock is almost too pretty to take out in the field. As much as I love this gun I drool at the sight of Winchester 21' s or Ithaca Classic Doubles in any grade...beautiful works of art

Side-by-sides were " phased out" decades ago when the vatious " corn-shellers" became popular! Primarily because good ones require a lot of hand fitting and thus cost a fortune. Of course, a good O/U does, too! I agree with you though. There' s nothing as elegant, fast-handling, or better looking than a goos SXS. Like a Purdy, a Parker, or even an M21 Winchester!
