Default Rem 870 vs 1100

Hi guys,

Picking up a new shotgun for slug hunting here in Illinois, and I was thinking of doing some springtime turkey hunting. Would it be advantageous to go 1100 for the turkey part? This way all I' d have to do is get a turkey barrel to compliment the fully rifled barrel.

Or is the 870 all I' d really need? I' m new to turkey hunting, so I' m not even sure you' d need a semi-auto.

Thanks!

The 1100 would be alot easier on you in case of a follow up shot in either situation.

Do you like pumps or semi' s? There' s your answer .. of course if money factors in the 870 starts to look nicer.

I agree with the others. If money' s not an issue, the 1100' s the way to go. If, on the other hand, you' d like to save a little cash...or have it to invest in a barrel and/or chokes, etc...the 870 is a dandy. I' ve got one that I hunt for both deer and turkey with (BTW, I have a smooth bore deer barrel with rifled choke and rifle sights that I put a turkey choke in during turkey season. The rifle sights and short barrel make a dang fine turkey gun..easy to maneuver and MUCH more accurate sighting than with just a bead!). I' ve had to take a second shot with it on one occasion (at a deer) and I was able to pull it off without any trouble...bullets are fast

Purely a personal choice between the 870 and 1100. As far as the fast shooting of the 1100, I watched a friend win many wagers by shooting his pump a LOT faster than a automatic.

I agree that it is personal choice with auto vs pump. Both of these are great guns! -- CDH

I have both, and I prefer the 870. I can shoot it almost as fast as the 1100, and I can beat it up without feeling guilty.
