Theres alot of options for what you want. Im partial to the winchester model 70, as I have two of them in stainless, however I swapped the stocks for wood ones. 338, 300, and a few other calibers are great elk rounds. I would look at some of the new winchester alaskan rifles, as well as their all weather, and the browning Xbolts. Zeiss and Leupold get my nod for glass on top. 3-9x, or a 3.5-10x in a 40mm would be great.

really don't have a budget. I'm at that point where I want to make sure I get it right so I don't have any equipment issues in the future. I do think I would like to have one of the scopes with the additional cross hairs or circles for reference on long range shooting.

Love my Tikka...but also love my Remington 700's, hard to beat them. 338 Win is plenty of caliber for Elk and you can't go wrong with it. I have always elk hunted with a 308 or 270 truth be told and have never had an animal get away...I never enjoyed the recoil of bigger belted mags, my 7mm Mag became a safe queen years ago!

Great suggestion, I have two Savage 30-06's and I recently bought a Savage Light Weight Hunter in a 308, all of these rifles are extremely accurate and well worth the money. My personal 338 is a Remington 700 BDL with a Leupold 4.5-14x, I love it, but I wouldnt hesitate a bit in buying a Savage Weather Warrior.
