The .45 LC is going to kick much less than a .44 magnum. A .45 LC would be a decent choice - it's not super powerful, but it does spit out a very big heavy bullet that would work for what you need. Another option would be to get a .44 mag and use .44 Special rounds in it until you feel comfortable moving up to the mag rounds. The .44 Special is very pleasant to shoot and still decently powerful...
