Default Purchasing another 22 Rifle

I' m thinking about buying another .22 rifle. For the uses I have in mind, have limited the selection to either a Ruger 10/22 or a Remington 597. Of these two which would you prefer and if possible supply a reason as to why???

The Ruger comes in a ton of different offerings now, and the upgrades are limitless. It was my first gun and of all the .22' s I have shot, it' s still my favorite.

Of the two mentioned, I would only consider the 10/22. Mine out of the box shoots 1/2" groups all day at 50 yards. It still needs a trigger job because all of the 10/22 triggers are way too heavy. I' ve never owned nor shot a 597 but have heard enough bad things about them that I would never buy one unles Remington makes some major improvments. I have heard some good stories about the new Thompson Center .22 rifles but would still go with the 10/22.

The 597 would make a nice tent peg.
As far as a nice .22, IMHO, maybe take a look at the Kimber or the T/C .22 target. Both are 1 hole shooters with most ammo and do not reqiure all the extra " gunsmithing" that the Ruger will, to shoot the same.
I have had several Ruger 10/22' s and love them. Mine are all tweeked out and ready to race. Shoot 1 hole groups. Cost and additional $500 to get it that way. (starting with a base model)
If you are absolutely sold on the Ruger, give their 10/22T a serious look. All of the upgrades for not much more $' s.

The 10-22 and Marlin 60 are hard to beat , I own both in stainless models .

The Rem 597 is junk, pure and simple so that leaves the 10/22.

i' ve had a marlin model 60 , they' re great guns , function pretty smoothly , handle good , and are inexpensive ,

i' ve never owned a 10/22 but i' ve heard only good things about them

i' ve never owned a model 597 either but have never heard anything good about them

but i have heard about another remington semi-auto 22 called the model 552 speedmaster , it' s similar to the marlin in looks ( sort of ) and i' ve heard good things about it , it' s also been in the remington line for a decent while so it' s time proven
