I've shot a .270 win quite a few times but I've never been hunting with one. I've always used a .243 win.
How much bigger of a difference is this gonna make besides ammo price?
Or how about a .308? I actually have a lot of previous hunting experience with a .308. Is it a better choice because a .243, .270 and a .308 are all the same price where I'm looking. They're all Remingtons with 3-9x40 scopes.

Mostly Whitetail bucks during the fall, winter and early spring. The more I look at the Remington 700, the more i want it. A nice hefty .308 with a 3-9x40 to back it up along with the fact it's Realtree Ap!

i wouldnt reccommed the scope+gun setups. i had a friend who bought one and the scope was alright for rimfire purposes, but even the decent recoil of the 243 knocked the scope off some. im guessing you're looking at something at walmart. if i were you, id spend a little extra and get savage rifle in 308 and a nikon scope. best of luck to ya.

I'm not going to discourage someone from buying a new deer rifle but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a .243 on deer...I've used one since 1980 with no complaints...I've got a brother that has 2-.270s, another with a 7mm-08 and a .280 and a third with a .308...You won't see much if any difference at all between any of these if you put that bullet where it is suppose to go...
