I don' t think it will last. The 300 WSM has an advantage not only in velocity but in marketing as well. It has too big of a foothold and I really don' t think that there is room for two versions of the same thing. Personally I will stick with my 300 Win Mag.

they are very similar and if the remington has any advantage , i think it would be in the case design , i' ve heard that it' s got a slight taper to it and therefore feeds better than the winchester , which i think i' ve also heard has feeding problems in some gun makes ( but i can' t confirm that , as it was something that i heard, almost a rumor kind of ) , the winchester is available in more rifles than the remington though

There is an artical by Jim Zumbo in this months Outdoor life. He says the 300 remington short mag in the model 7 rifle is his new favorite elk gun. The elk he has shot with it in his words went down so fast he could not believe it. I think he said his load was 180 grain at 3250 fps. You might want to read the artical. He likes the light weight and the way the model 7 handles. I think it will last at least in the model 7 I think they have a winner there. He says too that he always has and still does prefer a straight 4X scope for elk hunting.

I think the barrels in all of those monster mags are done for in about 900 rounds. Maybe it' s just me but I would rather buy something for shooting and hunting, not sighting in, hanging up, then hunting with. Those barrels come under way too much pressure to last long, then you have to fork over 300 dollars for a new barrel. 300 bucks is a good start on a new gun!

They should not be any harder on barrels than any other magnum rifle. I quess it depends on how many rounds a person would put through it. When I used my Savage 300 win Mag, I only put about 6 to 10 rounds per year through it. I would take it out a couple weeks before season and fire a few rounds at 200 yards to make sure it was still on the money. I never wanted to shoot that gun any more than that.

high velocity , and high pressure varmint loads are very hard on barrels , i' de think they are harder on barrels than magnums are . my personal opinion that is
