30.06 hands down. Like mentioned above, i got boxes of ammo for $6 a piece. It's popular, powerful and will will be a fine deer gun. I like it just for the range of ammo you can get for it.. 150 gr 165 gr 180 gr 220 gr... it's like having more gun with those options. the new mags are too damn expesive to me. I look at them more like a fad of some kind. Nothing wrong with them i am sure and if i was a complete gun nut i may get one. But for your last "deer" rifle, stick with proven caliber.

I just recently bought my "last" deer rifle....(I think)....and it's a 30-06 for all the reasons mentioned above, + the reloading options for this caliber are simply endless.

Does cheap ammo make the cartridge any more accurate?
Does it make the cartridge kill quicker or cleaner?
Is the 180gr or 220gr bullet an advantage for deer hunting?
Does being popular make the cartridge more accurate?
Does it make the cartridge kill quicker or cleaner?

The bottom line is that being popular, having cheaper ammo available or having a larger selection of bullet weights available in no way makes a cartridge perform any better on deer.As long as the cartridge has adequate bullet weight and velocity and the bullet is placed properly it really doesn't matter what cartridge that you use to kill your deer.

does cheap ammo make it easier to practice?

does multiple bullet weights make it easier to hunt a wider range of game

has the 30.06 in the right hands proved to be accurate like most other calibers?

Does widely available ammo make it easier to hunt with?

Since ammo is one of the smallest expenses of most hunting seasons compared to guns, fuel, licenses, clothing, etc, the few dollars that one saves doesn't make much of a difference in an annual budget.

There is not one north american animal that you can't easily hunt with a 180gr-.308" bullet.

Being popular does not make the 30-06 any more accurate than less popular cartridges.

Being able to buy ammo at any corner store does not make it easier to hunt with a cartridge. It just makes it easier to find more ammo if you run out due to poor shooting and being foolish enough not to take enough ammo with you on a hunting trip.

it depends where your goin to be hunting........if your goin to be out the open ill go with the 7mm wsm & if your goin to be more in the woods i would go with the 30-06, but one thing it that the 7mm wsm ammo isnt cheap its almost $30 where i live & thats in Tn. and another thing with the 7mm wsm is that the barrel will ware down faster then the 30-06 barrel will............ but its whatever you want.

I just spent the last 15 years using a 30-06 for deer and after much information gathering and talking to people I just bought my "last" deer gun a 7mm-08 tikka t3. ironic that you are moving up and I am moving down in caliber
