Rem 700 vs. Winchester M70
#12
I would pick the model 70 in a heartbeat. The old model 70s were good, but the new ones seem to be even better. The model 700 action being so strong and accurate arguement doesnt hold water when we are talking production guns used for hunting. Sure, if you go spend a few grand on a model 700 action, you may see an edge over the model 70 in accuracy, but thats not what we are talking about. Winchester wins the reliable feeding and extraction award for a hunting rifle, and probably has alot better barrels on their guns now then Remington ever has.
Now Remington makes a decent rifle. I still dont care for their safety, or the price they are asking for their guns, but its decent enough to hunt with. For the same price you can get the model 70, and all but assured greater accuracy out of the box right now.

I'm considering replacing the wood stock with something nice in synthetic form. Mcmillian edge maybe, or bell and carlson

I would also choose the M70. In my opinion not even a fair comparison.
