something in between?
I have a 22, 22 hornet, 7mm-08, 270wsm, 30-06 and 338
I am looking for something in between the 22 and 7mm08.
Thinking about a .243 or .260.
No arguments about the 7mm being better or the same as the .260 please. I am aware of the ballistics and bullet weights etc.
Just want to fill the niche in between with a 6mm style
thoughts?

In Between?
If you reload you might want to consider one of the 25's.
250/3000(250 Savage)
257 Roberts
25/06
The Savage model14 can be had in the 250 and Ruger chambers the Roberts.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I love my .243 and think the cartridge is one of the few "real" dual purpose cartridges !
.............and you don't have to be a reloader to find ammo for anything you want to use it for; Varmints/Predators or Deer.
BTW - It can hold it's own from the bench as well.

I understand your "size goal" but, what purpose do you have in mind for this rifle?
If you are looking for a varmit rifle that is one thing; a deer rifle in another to me. I am not looking for an argument on the subject because, I know that lots of folks use the 243 for deer successfully. That should be limited to small deer.
I am not much of a believer in "dual purpose" in this instance. Therefore, if this is to be a deer rifle, a 260 would be my minimum.

.... If I were you, I'd scratch that itch with a .243 Win. Sheridan said it right about ammo available for most any situation you'd want to use it for...
