I went to a gun show today and they had a Para Ordnance 1911 .45 for $480. I didn't know you could get a 1911 for that price. What do you think about Para Ordanance? I am not looking for a competition gun, just something to plink with and for a home defense gun. If the trigger needs lightening, can it be done?

I have only limited experience with them, but I have shot my friends a little. IMO they are a very good pistols. Accuracy and trigger was very good. I don't know if he had a trigger job done but it was crisp and relatively light for a 1911.

I've got two ParaOrdnance P14's. One standard model with alloy frame, and one a limited version in stainless steel. Both have over 10,000 rounds through them. Nice pistols. Only problem I've had is that, after a few thousand rounds, I had to replace the magazine release. For some bizarre reason, PO made it out of polymer. Replaced with stainless steel, and no problems since...

Do you know which model this was? Maybe their GI version, with single stack mag? If so, that price is about right. On the net, list prices run from about $470- $510. Tat price would be a real bargain for one of their double stack 1911's... Also, be aware that although they all look like 1911's, I believe some of the PO pistols are DAO. But, again, a little more pricey than the GI version.

It is a the single stack GI Expert model. I have done a little searching on the net about it and while it sounds like a pretty good gun, I realized there is a lot to know about 1911's in general. I thought they would all be the same with interchangeable parts much like the AR-15 but I was wrong. So much learning is needed on my part before I buy a 1911.
