Default 7mm08 Factory Ammo Suggestions

I am looking at ordering either the Federal Fusion or the Federal Partitions in 140 grain for my 7mm08 to take whitetail deer and hogs.

Which do you suggest, I hesitate to pay $40 a box for the partitions, but is the performance worth the extra money?

Any other ammo suggestions?

Not unless you are after very big pigs (400+ lbs), elk or moose with the 7mm-08.

Any other ammo suggestions?
Federal powershock (blue box)
Remington corelokt (120 or 140 grain)
Winchester power point
Hornady SST

It is not one of the choices you mentioned, but I love the 139 grain hornady interlock.

I'd fusion, unless going after very large game like elk...as BB mentioned. I've gunned cheapy 120s through my 7mmRM for deer with no problems, and can't see a 140 fusion causing problems through the -08 at reasonable distances

Are you staying in Florida to hunt??? If so, those 140 gr CoreLokts will do all that needs doing...My brother has used them in his Model 7, 7mm08 since the early 80s...

He's killed at least 150 deer and 5 black bears with that bullet...

Tougher bullets mean smaller wound channels on our smaller southern whitetails, thus longer tracking jobs on lung shots...

One of the benefits (IMHO) of shooting a 7mm-08 is that at the velocity it hurls a bullet standard types such as Cor-Lokts, Power Points, and the cheaper Federal blue box stuff work just fine. And the animals are just as dead as if you shot them with some tougher premium 50 dollar a box ammo at 3200 fps out of some hand held Howitzer.

I'd shoot which ever of the bullets I mentioned above or the Fusions that were acceptably accurate from your particular rifle. Any, at 7mm-08 velocities, should hold together fine and kill any whitetail or hog that walks in North America.

Check out the new Hornady Superformance ammo. I know they make a 139 grain SST for the 7-08. I have been shooting some out of my 270 Winchester and the velocity is pretty close to advertised and they shoot very accurate. Got mine for $28 per box.

I use mine in a 15" Encore barrel for bear hunting, and I found that Winchester Super X 140g. power points shoot best for me.
