The Federal .357B is a great personal defense load.It's a 125 gr.
jacketed HP.
Hunting loads I intend to try in the near future are Hornady's 140 gr. lever revolution flex tip and Federal Barnes 140 gr. X bullet.Hornady's 158 XTP also gets good reviews.
Generally, specialty bullets come 20 or 25 per box. Most standard loads, for this caliber, come 50 per box.
Remington also has a duplicate to the .357B listed above.

My Blackhawk loves the Federal Classic 125gr Hollow points, that's what is in it now hidden away at home...Unfortunately, I can't find them any more, but I do have a few boxes stuck away...
It also likes the Remington UMC 125gr soft point...Both of these loads shoot dead on at 20 yards with about a 2 inch group...
For some reason this gun doesn't like 158 gr bullets, so I stick with the 125s...

For personal defense I use Win 158 sphp +p's in both.
I have a box of hand loads for hunting as I recall their 140gn xtp's over H110. These days its a LEE 358-158 rnfp over 6.5 Unique for the. 357 the 38 gets just 5gns.
I thought about working up another load for the .357 but it shoots so well in both my Sec6 and the carbine that I see no point. It turns in 1140 in the pistol and 1520 in the carbine.

I hunt with 158 JSP 357 factory loads (I don't handload) and have had great success. I'd like to get my hands on some of the 180 grain factory loads for hunting but have not able to find them anywhere. I'll probably have to wait until I can get to Cabela's to get the 180's, and that's almost a 3 hour ride for me, so the I'll keep using the 158's until then. As far as 38's for PP, I use different standard non +p's (often FMJ's). I'm confident that they will provide sufficient protection, but I wouldn't go with anything less. If the first shot doesn't drop em I still have 4 more.
