Drache I'll have to disagree on the use of 00 buck for home defense. It over penetrates and could harm soom loved ones in another room. Going by what I read on home defence with a shot gun. Zeak

I'd honestly recommend skipping the pistol grip for defense when used with anything other than trap loads...I had a Moss 500 with a pistol grip, and with even 2 3/4" buckshot, the recoil was brutal to the web of the hand and to the wrist. (Much more so than a mere .44 mag...)

Hay Razorhunter and who ever else has a Mossy 590, did yours come with that 6 shell holder bolted on the side? And if so how do you take it off? Mine is bolted through recever, and I think that screw has to stay in to hold it together.I love the 590 but that really blows. Watch putting a pistol grip on it because it will rip your arm off.

I took my 870 wingmaster magnum,Threw on a 20" slug barrel with rifle sights (iron) added 1 swat magazine extension .Instant tactical shotgun ,still have full stock holds 8,2 3/4 #4 buckshot. If you need anything else you are not in the right place or the right planet.

I just bought a Mossberg 500. This thing is a tactical dream machine. It's got a 20" barrel, 7 round tube, pistol grip built in to the shoulder stock ,side-mounted shell carrier, ghost ring in the back, and an orange ramp in the front. BOOM BABY!
It's a cylinder bore, so it's not the most versatile shotgun, but boy can it do what it was built for.
I'm glad to hear your opinions in favor of the 500. I bought it used from a cop who seemed to know his stuff, but I had to take his word for it. I'm glad to know I made a good choice.
I was just at the range the other day to se what the patterns lokk like from 00buck.
-At 20' everything hit in the size of a grapefruit
-At 30' all the buckshot stayed on a paper plate
-At 40' two-thirds of the shot was still on the silhouette I was shooting at.
The pattern was pretty even. Looked like a great way to make hamburger!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
