rifled barrell help

i have a marlin 512 by looking around on here and marlin owners ive gathered that the fully rifled barrell can wear out ... can they? and if so how could ill tell..

Shotgun slugs are either plastic saboted or lead. I can't foresee any situation where a rifled barrel would wear out in one lifetime.
