accurcy of a Ar rifle
What is the general accuracy and max yardage for a .308 AR platform rifle with a good scope. Would they do 300 yards on a deer.
Also do any of you guys have a opinion on the Remington R25. Are they a good rifle.

What i wanted to hear. Forget the bolt action. A 308 Ar it is. I figured it would be good way out there. We shot 8 inch groups with iron sights quick shooting with the .223 ar at a 100 to 150 yards. My dad could hit a silver dollar size whole out to 100 going slow. I love these rifles. I just got a chill. Still going to get the bolt. But the ar will do my ky hunt plus fun to shoot.

The Remington AR's are Bushmaster AR with Remington branding and camo dipped. The same company that owns Remington also owns Bushmaster, so it was an easy crossover. The R-15 and 25 are marketed toward hunters, where the Bushmasters are more for the true "black rifle" folks. I've fondled the R-15 and it appears to be just as good as any other Bushmaster.

As for accuracy, I've seen AR-15's shoot and honest 1/2 MOA, and I've never seen an AR shoot worse than 1.5MOA if the shooter was competent and the rest was solid. I'm sure there are AR's out there that don't shoot that great, but most seem to shoot really well.

That makes me feel better about buying the remington. I love bushmaster. I had one factory stock me and my dad could do 30 rounds all 4 to 6 inchs for the groups at 100 yard standing no rest. On a bench a two inch was not a uncommon things. WIth iron sights aswell. Cheap surplus or wolf ammo to.

I would love to have an AR for deer hunting, but I prefer the size of the smaller AR-15 platform though. There are a lot of decent deer caliber being offered now; like the .24 and .25 WSSM, 6.5 grendel and the 6.8 SPC.

In terms of accuracy at several hundred yards of range an AR is a great choice. Like has already been said, an AR platform in .308 or 6.5 make an excellent hunting rifle. I've seen numerous 200-300 yard shots made on deer with a nice AR with a decent scope. In many cases you'll spend more than you would on a bolt gun, but if an AR is something you want and hunting is something you want to do with it, you'll have a blast and bring home what you aim at.
