A lefty in distress......help!
Still looking for me "go to" deer/hog rifle. One that would be the "foundation" that my gun collection would grow from. Stainless and either sythetic or laminated wood. One to keep and never sell.
The caliber? Still deciding between the .30-06, 7mm. Rem. Mag, and .300 Win. Mag.
I've used all 3 and have had excellent results with them all.
In the meantime, I've been sorting through several different rifles. One was the Remington XCR in a lefty model. Called Remington today and found out that they aren't offering the XCR in a lefty model anymore......thanks Remington.
So on I tread to Brownings website. Having owned left handed A-Bolt Stainless Stalkers in the past with nothing but good results, I thought I would check them out........Right handed X-Bolts, even right handed A-Bolts,..........but a SEVERE lack of left handed A-Bolts and X-Bolt isn't made in a left handed action yet.
Now before ya'll start beating me up, I know why gun companies produce so few left handed rifles. It's a business, and a business has to make money to grow. Left handed rifles are a VERY small chunk of their business, and I UNDERSTAND that......but I don't have to LIKE it. LOL.
Sako?...nope. Weatherby?.....not in standard calibers.
What's a lefty to do?
So now I'm either looking at the Ruger M77 Hawkeye Stainless/Laminate or Remington CDL and having all the metal work weatherproofed and the stock replaced with a nice synthetic.
OR.........................
Take the left hand/right hand thing totally out of the equasion and do something like a Ruger No. 1B and having the metal work weatherproofed.
I keep hearing the No.1's can have accuracy issues, but I'm more concerned where the FIRST shot goes as this will be a hunting rifle and not for shooting groups other than finding it's most accurate load.
I would appreciate any advice or opinions about rifle. I'm pretty much open to any suggestions (except I WILL be going with 1 of the 3 calibers I listed earlier. .30-06, 7mm. Rem. Mag. or .300 Winny)
Thanks folks,
Schoolcraft

Ya won't be missing the mark with the Ruger. My brother has the stainless\synthetic model in a RH version. I have a wood\blued RH version and our partner has the same as I do. All three are 7mm Rem. Mag. The Browning would be my second choice, by a very narrow margin.

I just checked and you CAN get a stainless stalker in those calibers/cartridges with or without the BOSS. The stainless stalker comes with a decent synthetic stock that's already glass bedded and free floated barrel, as well as all the other a-bolt advantages.

Thanks guys, but after calling every gun shop in my area, they all say their distributors are zeroed out on inventory for left handed Stainless Stalkers.
I was really hoping to find that Remington XCR in a lefty so all I would have to do is replace the BLAH stock with a McMillan.
Any other opinions on caliber or the Ruger M77 Hawkeye Stainless/Laminate or Ruger No. 1?
