So a few years ago when picking out my first deer gun, i went with a 7mm wsm. It had good ballistics, but i didnt realize how hard it already was to find ammo for it. Looking back, it was definitely a bad choice haha. Im just wondering, could any of you more experienced hunters give an estimate as to how long it will be before the bullet becomes basically obsolete? Cause that will probably be when it becomes time to buy a new gun haha

No way to tell. Probably 10 years at least. Sounds like you have a great reason to start handloading. I guarantee you brass will be available long after they've discontinued factory ammo.

I'm with driftrider. The ammo's probably always gonna be there somewhere. But I'd grab some reloading gear and stop worrying

I havent thought of that but im in college so i dont really have the time/money to start handloading. But maybe by the time the bullets get really hard to find i'll be able to start handloading

Just keep your fired cases (empties) Then buy a set of reloading dies. That way down the road you will have the supplies that will be hard to come by.

Don't be fooled, it ain't rocket science. Handloading is fun, and will PAY FOR ITSELF.

The problem isn't the caliber, ammo period is getting harder to find! I reload and wanted to buy factory .270 ammo this year just for the brass and couldn't find any anywhere,good thing I had some already loaded or I would have been SOL, I just ordered 200 rounds of new brass hopefully that will last for awhile, You know they don't have to take our right to own a guns away but what good are they if you can't buy ammo!!!

I have notice the 7mm WSM is being dropped from the Short Mag lineup by several of the rifle manufacturers that used to offer it, and that is an indication of trouble down the road. That being said the 7WSM is probably the best short mag in the line up. If you dont shoot alot but are worried about availabilty I would buy a lee anniversary or challenger kit for around $90.00 and the lee 3 die collet die set and load your own rather that look sell the gun.

Depending on your magazine length and throat length the 7WSM can really perform with the right bullet/powder.

Something to be said for being able to walk in the corner store in rural USA and pick up a box of bullets.

Save your brass, load your own and you won't care. As long as 7mm bullets, powder and primers can be found you will never have to wonder again.
