Leave ammo in magazine - weakened spring?

As a LEO myself, I keep my magazines loaded for my on duty and off duty weapons. I carried a Beretta 96 with 3 magazines as a duty weapon for over 10 years without any problems. A previous poster stated that the compression/decompression is worse....that is what we have been told by the factory in the past.

FYI my wifes grandfather just gifted me his old service 1911 45ACP that he was issued in 1937. One of the clips that came with the gun had ammo in it that had been there for decades, not hours, decades. It functions just fine. Given that you can get mags for a 1911 pretty much anywhere for cheap I certainly wouldn't worry about it much.
