Range Rifle - .223 Rem or .308 Win
Looking for some advice,
I recently joined a gun club to improve my shooting abilities. I currently own nothing smaller than a 300 Win Mag and do not reload. Based on the ammo I would have to buy, this would make repeated range shooting very expensive.
Two calibers were recommended to keep costs down, they were the 223 rem and 308 win. Just wondering what you prefer.
I' m leaning towards the 308 so I can atleast use the rifle for deer and as a back up gun for moose hunting.

RE: Range Rifle - .223 Rem or .308 Win
I would get the .308, since it will play better in the wind way down range. Both should be had by every little boy, but for starters, I' d say the bigger bore, then once you get the handle on things, get the smaller one so that you know already what is what and what to do to your rifle to put ten of those little bullets under a dime. That' s just me though, I have both, and got them that way, neither of them are true benchrest rifles, but both have had quite a bit of work, and I' m glad I figured things out with a rifle I don' t mind taking after deer as well.
BTW, this is my 500th post, today, I am a man.[&:]

RE: Range Rifle - .223 Rem or .308 Win
If you are planning on just shooting paper and varmints then the 223 Rem will do, although I am not at all fond of the cartridge. If you want something that can serve as a big game rifle as well then the 308 Win is your best bet.
