Definately go with the Benelli. The Benelli will be better made. I have a mossberg pump and I know three other people who have mossberg pumps. And guess what everysingle one of them rattles. The forestock (i think thats what it is called) is generally really lose on mossbergs. I would definately go with the benelli, and if you have enough money i would get a better benelli in semi-auto for turkey.

The Benelli is by far the better made shotgun. The Mossbergs are notorious for the forend to rattle. The Mossbergs do have somewhat of a silent safety and some say it is in a better location. A friend of mine has hunted with a Mossberg 500 since Jr. high, he has done just fine. I don' t recall any shells jamming or any malfunctions. I do recall pheasants, rabbit, squirrels, raccoons, ducks, and a button buck falling to his 500. There were no turkeys in NW Indiana in those days. Since then he has bought other more exspensive shotguns, but still hunts with the 500. I was not so fortunate as he to hunt with a NEW gun, Mossberg or not, at an early age, I used a Ithaca M37 20ga circa great depression, I killed the same critters as he except for deer, the cowardly lot would not cooperate. I still use my M37 on our annual quail hunt.
You were wanting to know about the 835, that is the same gun as the 500 except chambered for the trukey/goose bustin 3 1/2" mag
The 835 comes in nice camo and you get a free(?) hard plastic case with certain models. check out the web site www.mossberg.com
I might have to reconsider the Mossberg.

I don' t know about the Benelli Nova, but I bought a Mossberg 835 at a gun show. It has some dings and scratches, but I cleaned it up, mounted a scope on it, replaced the choke with a Hastings choke, and I flat will not sell it. I used it the last 2 years turkey hunting using Winchester HV 3.5" #4' s and took 8 long beards in those two seasons. It has taken more than one turkey (I' m embarrassed to admit) beyond 60 yards. It will reach on out there.
Yes it rattles, and it does not like to smoothly eject 3.5 inch shells, but it is a GREAT turkey gun and I would not trade it or sell it to get any other brand.

all i can speak of is mossbergs...never touched or shot a benelli nova....they are heavy and can double as a boat anchor when your goose hunting.....they arent well made at all...i heard from a true gun guy that they only have one lug(not sure if thats the word or not) but its something that locks the action shut..opposed to every other pump having 2...i have a 500 and use it for my beating small game gun which is going to change...im going to a 20 ga for small game for now on i think....but it served me for 3 or 4 years and ive never had a problem....heavy as can be and doesnt pattern to good.....patterns ok but expect to have to buy aftermarket tubes...i killed my fair share of game with it and hunted in every weather condition and its always fine...if thats all you can afford it will serve you well....but if you can buy better its probally smarter..my turkey gun now is a remington 870....the 21 inch barreld turkey gun..only 3 inch mag but its tiny light and patterns GREAT.....i love it....i cant stand big long heavy turkey guns...i walk way to much and cant stand the forarm rattle/loosness...benellis on the other hand make some of the best shotguns out there and i doubt they let down there reputation on the nova.....good luck.......either on will work but if you are willing to spend a few more bucks i think it would be smarter.....and this comes from a mossberg user....ive shot atleast 2000rds through mine easy and i never had a problem...i just personally dont like it.....
