RE: Benelli Nova or Mossberg 835(turkey)?
Frizzellr: sorry to be so long, but this may explain why this is not " hogwash"
Frizzellr: I didn' t turn my nose up because of cost,I paid a little over $500.00 for the 835 ultra-mag 3 1/2" 12 ga.because I was told they were the most dependable guns on the market.[:-]
I will have to say it was a turkey killing machine, anything out to 60 yards it would fill the kill zone on a turkey head target.(every time).
the problem I had was it would eject the empty shell and the live round on the ground.it did this and cost me a wounded deer, two times on the same deer.(he finally got away;because I could not shoot again).
I called Mossberg and they said send it back and they would fix it.I sent it back,(at my cost)they called me and said they found the problem and had it fixed.I got it back,I got two boxes of shells.my hunting buddys and myslef, ran through thosr two boxes.it failed three times in two boxes.Same problem[:@].
this was in the middle of hunting season,so I waited till the meddle. of Jan. and sent it back again(my cost).they called me again with the same," we found the problem and fixed it" .
In march turkey season came in and I got the gun back on thur. before[:-].
[8D],on opening day I took a nice gobbler at about 45 yards.,the next morning I went to a blind where we saw a bunch of hogs.so I was going to open the gun and have a #6 turkey shot and a #00 buck for the hogs.when I opened the gun it was empty from the morning befor.[:@][:@]I went back to where I killed the gobbler and there lay my empty and live round.
I called Mossberg for the third time.they told me to send it back again and if it was the same they would send me a NEW gun.sent again(my cost)
It came back this time never taken apart,I know because they had marked the screws befor and so had I.they were all still marked.this time they never called or explained anthing, just sent me a no go gun.[:@][X(][>:][:@].
I called and sent a letter to mr Mossberg himslef,(son, grandson,or what ever,he was just a Mossberg)and he told me the same thing to send it back and they would fix it.I explained this was the third time, and that ended the conversation,he turned me over to someone else, and so on and so forth, and so on.they never would agree to fix it or give me a different gun.I finally told them to forget it,and I sold the gun and went back to my Browning BPS 3" (that I had retired after 35 years)
so I do think you can easely see why I do not like Mossberg guns!! And never will[:@][X(][X(].
just though I should explain.just my 2 cents;there are 98 more
That is pure, unadulterated hogwash. Mossberg shotguns are great guns. People just turn their noses up at them because they don' t cost as much as the others. They buy into that " you get what you pay for" crap which we know isn' t true anymore.

RE: Benelli Nova or Mossberg 835(turkey)?
I' ve owned a Mossberg 835 and now own a Mossberg 500 and also a Benelli Nova. Of the three guns, the Benelli wins hands down in my opion. A great handling, shooting, feeling gun. Both of the Mossbergs have given me trouble, the 835 would fail to eject and the 500 fails to feed if shot more then twice with high brass. After that it has to be taken apart and cleaned throughly, then repeat after several shots. [:@] Need to send it back now that spring gobbler is over. I just got the Benelli right before spring gobbler and didn' t have it set up soon enough. I really enjoy though on the range

I have shot the Mossberg quite a bit but never owned one of them ,but I do own the Benelli Nova and really don' t care for it . The gun rattles when you work it and to me it feels out of balance . I have a feeling it will be traded in the near future .
