I use both a bolt action and a semi-auto during deer season. For me it is more dependant on where I am hunting (open area v thick woods), and what caliber I need (300 WBY v 30-06).

Bolt for accuracy and dependability.

While I personally use a couple of bolt actions (Savage 7mm Remington Mag or a .270 Winchester), I really enjoy hunting with semi-autos as well.

I killed my first deer with a Remington 742 semi-auto in .30-06 (the preferred deer gun of most areas where I hunt). But lately, I have also been carrying around my brothers Remington 7400 in .270 Winchester.

Have never had the opportunity to take a Browning BAR hunting, but would love the Safari Grade version in any of the Magnum calibers (7mm Remington, 300 Winchester, 338 Winchester, and some of the WSM).
