Barrel break-in
Ok can you all explain to me the methods you use. Bronze brush then wetpatch or wetpatch then bronze brush? Also the copper fouling, is that the the blue stuff that comes out on the patch? How many stroke is necessary with the brush, i dont want to over do it? do i only use the bronze brush for x amount of strokes then run x amount of patches through it with disolvent until no more blue junk comes out on the patch? Then i ready for shot number 2 and repat until shot 10, after wich i can shoot 3 shot groups inbetween cleanings for up to 20 rounds?

There' s absolutely no proof that barrel break in does a thing for you.....and there' s no proof that it hurts either.....I think it' s mostly emotional.....but try this
Clean the bore with bore mops and alcohol before you fire the gun.....use a light oiled patch prior to shooting.....
Shoot about ten rounds sighting in and then use a bore mop and copper solvent.....do it again after a few minutes.....then using a phosphor bronze brush it twenty full strokes and wipe with a lightly oiled patch again.
Shoot 10-20 rounds this time and repeat the copper solvent and oiling again.....after this clean the barrel with copper solvent and phosphor bronze brushes at least every 50 rounds. Avoid stainless steel brushes.
Don' t be afraid to brush the barrel with the bronze brush.....it won' t hurt it. always clean from the bore and not the muzzle if possible.

RE: Barrel break-in
I break in my barrels by cleaning them thoroughly after a day at the range. My most accurate rifle was built in 1964, before anyone even knew about having to break in a barrel (I never heard Keith, Page, Whelen, or O' Connor even mention this). This rifle has a Duglas Premium Grade barrel, not nearly as good as the fancy ones available today, and will still shoot five bullets through one ragged hole @ 100 yards (cal: 6mm/.284).

RE: Barrel break-in
i just go to the range fire 20 rounds or so through it . ( but make sure the barrel does not heat up ) and clean my rifle after every time at the range.
i did what other people say. clean every round then every ten rounds and so on. and find that my browning A-bolt which i did not do that shoots just as good as my savage does that i did clean the way others say to do.
i don' t knwo if it actually helps doing that or if it is a sales ploy for you to spned moe moeny on cleaning supplies. kinda like they say use rem ammo in remington guns .

I' m thinking if you were supposed to break in a new gun barrel there would be something in the manual about it like new cars have.
Still, I wouldn' t shoot it a ton before cleaning. Seems like 20 rounds between should be good.

RE: Barrel break-in
Power, thanks for bringing that up.....There used to be a " break in period" for new cars.....that was all baloney too.....
This much I do believe.....regular cleaning.....(at least every fifty rounds) with a good copper solvent is an absolute must with centerfire rifles. If you have a rifle that just isn' t shooting like it used to.....clean the bejabbers out of it with a good amonia copper solvent before returning it in trade!!! I lost a fine .225 Winchester years ago because I didn' t know about that.

RE: Barrel break-in
Guys i appreciate that advice, i suppose winchester would mention something about it in the owners manual if it was neccessary for the best accuracy. Ive read that barrel manufactures conjured it up to get people over cleaning there barrels, wearing them out, and replacing them. I guess as long as i get all the copper out of it after each range trip it should be fine. Once again thanks for all your opinions on this subject.
