Which choke tube for turkey?
First off, thanks to all for the input on my earlier post about the Mossberg model 500. I picked it up yesterday. It came with the improved cyl, modified, and full choke tubes but I want to get one for turkey. I' ve seen all the ads, and read all the info on the aftermarket tubes. So now, as usual I come to the pros for advice. Which tube do you guys reccomend? Thanks in advance and I' ll be looking forward to hearing from ya!!

I have killed bunches and bunches with full. You can get the ultra full turkey chokes, but full has always brought me home birds. People want to really stretch out these days to 60 yards. I just think its too far.
With the ultra chokes, you really need to spend a day patterning that gun.

I would get a choke that is in the .650" , .655" , or .660" range, extended and ported. I use a .655" ported choke myself and it patterns very nicely out to 40-50yds with Federal 3" mag #6 turkey loads. You can go as low as .640" choke, but I don' t see the need to got that low. Hastings and Colonial both offer these super/ultra full turkey chokes from .640" -.675" for around the $22-$25 range.

Dick' s sporting goods and Bass Pro both sell the Mossberg extra full choke for the 500. I bought mine online when they werent available in the store.
I know there are other brands as well but I have no experience with them.
Truthfully, I dont know the lingo as this is my first experience with turkey hunting and this choke.
I am shooting consistently slightly low and to the right but it is consistent and it is a nice pattern. I am going to adjust my shooting to compensate this year and better prepare next year.
I wont shoot over 30 yards so that I am confident I am taking a good shot.
I am only using 2 3/4 winchester high velocity turkey loads.

I use the Mossberg 500 for turkey hunting and am very happy with the Star Dot XXFull extended choke. I tried three others and this one, the cheapest was the best. It and my gun prefers the Federal 3" Premium #5 shot and is batting 100% so far Wally World usally carries these chokes for $19.99.

RE: Which choke tube for turkey?
I' ve only been hunting turkey for 2 years now. I' ve had 3 different birds within about 40 yards but the old J.C. Higgins 20 gauge bolt action in full choke is only good to 25 yards. With this new gun I want to be able to reach out and touch them. I may get the Mossberg XX full choke (it' s cheap) and see what it will do. I' ve also been looking at the M.A.D. Max tube with the .665" I.D. I might get that one too. I don' t shoot enough to get into loading. Hmmm, maybe I should. Anyway, keep the ideas coming since I haven' t bought a tube yet.
