Wolf killer-the .45-70 can be safely loaded to .450 marlin pressure level in newer marlin lever rifles such as the newer 1895s. I remember asking the marlin rep at the NRA great outdoor festival the reason for the .450 Marlin when we've been loading the later 1895s to the same pressure & velocity levels for years and he replied it's for people who want that velocity/pressure level but don't reload.

I think this rifle was designed by customer requests to Marlin. I read a good bit about this rifle on the LeverGuns forum. A lot of suggestions were sent in to Marlin, and they listened. Especially on the design of the lever. Not as large as the loop, yet large enough to allow gloves.
The first one I saw was blued with a walnut stock(which I prefer). But most of the requests were for SS. So I guess SS is the way they went.
That rifle should be the berries. Tom.

Not drooling because I already built one pretty much just like it. Honestly I still think it's better to build your own.
Here's how mine breaks down:
Rifle in SS $560
Larger lever loop $100
Better Ejector $20
Action Smoothing/trigger job/weakening the lever safety/cutting the stock/pachenmeyer recoil pad/polish the crown/
Install the above two items $220
Scout Rail $30
Sights $40, just upgraded to a ghost ring $10
Total $980
Does anyone have any idea how much that new model costs?
Tom

Statjunk has an excellent point. Any rifle that has custom work will USUALLY be better than mass produced work, and shoot better/work slicker too.

By the way if you get a 45/70 I have an excellent slightly compressed load worked up for mine, that I would share with you bud?
