Seeing that he mentioned the 22-250 and it isn't available in the R-15 VTR I think he was talking about the 700 VTR.
They are good rifle and accurate from what I have heard. Confidence in your rifle is the main thing to killing deer. If you would feel more confident get it in a 243 or 308.

Mr. Roper I have one of these in .308. It's a nice rifle. Here is a review from gunblast.

I would honestly stay away from the varmint calibers for deer. It is possible to load heavy bullets for deer. I have done so, but you are still under gunned. You have to pass up unless you are taking an ideal shot. The range is reduced quite a bit because the little bullets just don't have the energy. I would rather take a predator any day with a 308 instead of a deer with a varmint caliber. My intent is not to detract from this thread or lead it astray. Just a fellow hunter who has been there and done that. If you decide on a small caliber the 64 gr win power point is a good bullet. Make sure to check out the energy of a 223, most people limit 1000 lbs energy for deer, that puts the 223 at 100 yards or so. I have no experience with a 243 but that may let you go after little and big game with proper bullets.
Blessings

RE: the new VTR rifle
hey thanks for all the good info! I think I am going to go with the 308. The only reson I was kicking the idea around with the the 223 was I have a AR-15 also and I was thinking the about the ammo I could play around shoting the VTR and it would not kill my bank haha. But i am going to go with the 308
