Default Lovin' on your guns.

Its been a long couple of week in my life. I have been a full time Youth Pastor for 5 years and loved every bit of it but last week I sat down in with the Senior Pastor and had a little talk and we decided that it was time for me to move up to an Associate Pastor and work with men and couples. Its a great thing and my wife and I are excited but we have been draggin because we had to tell the 40 sum odd kids we were stepping out.

So to skip ahead Tuesday night I was tense about telling the kids Wednesday and decided I needed to relax a bit so I told my wife I would be in the garage for a while. I went out and loaded some for my 300 wby. load test this weekend then pulled out my Ruger 270 its my goto work gun and has been used and abused this season. I looked it over and decided that since season ended last Saturday she was due for a good cleaning so I stripped it of the shell holder, sling, stock, etc. and started scrubbing every little piece.

In the end it was shining bright had a clean barrel and a smooth action again, but the signs of this last season were still on it. It has new scratches from being strapped on my back while I drug a 150lb buck outof the briars a little more wear around the grip from all those mornings of sitting waiting gun at the ready for when that buck crosses the fire break. Yep those scratches they're just lovin' because you spend time and use those things you love. When I went back into the house my wife asked me if I felt better and you know I did.

Congrats on your advancement. My pastor is a great guy and provides spiritual reinforcement. It takes a special person to do this work.

Gun wear is just part of the hunting process. Itake real good care of my guns and when I ding one up it upsets me but adds character at the same time. I usedmyMarlin 336 for 18 straigh years and it was beat to crap. I took the time to refinish it and now I treat it with kit gloves.Down the roadyournew 300 wthby will show wear through use.
