Just bought a Ruger 10/22 and am wondering about new barrels
I bought a ruger 10/22 stainless steel carbine tonight and when i was looking down the barrel i noticed it to be a smooth bore. How much will this effect the accuracy of the gun? will i need to buy a new barrel to get the accuracy i want? I want accuracy so that i can hunt raccoon with this gun, that is the sole purpose that i bought it.

There is rifling there. Ruger 10/22s have very fine rifling so it is hard to see. If you want to be sure take a cleaning rod and a patch and run it through. You will feel it twist. If you don' t and are sure there is no rifling there, contact Ruger immediately before you fire the gun.

with the fine rifling in the 10/22s combined with the fact that its hard to get enough light in the barrel it is sometimes hard to see the rifling. like frizzellr said
